The quote of 2009, and it wasn't from Ozzie

Working on the book tonight, I completed eulogies for Wilson Betemit, Bartolo Colon, Corky Miller and Jerry Owens.  In the process, I was delighted to rediscover this quote, which, in my mind, is the greatest thing said this year by anybody in the White Sox organization:

For whatever reason, the Lord didn't think I was ready to play in the big leagues last year and he kept me in Triple-A. -- Jerry Owens

If you think you can top it, bring it.  Because I don't think it's possible.
And speaking of the eulogized, Wilson Betemit was officially granted free agency.  Good thing 2010 is setting up to be the Summer of Marquez.
So far, there are 11 official eulogies on the list, with four in the probable queue.  There were 18 last year.

Christian Marrero Reading Room:
*Rudy Jaramillo is a free agent after rejecting the one-year contract offered by the Texas Rangers. I wonder if the Sox coaches ever officially signed those extensions...
*The Cheat revisits his Gavin Floyd projection.
*Clippings from the 1917 World Series (h/t SSS).
*J.J. reviews Octavio Dotel.
*Tim McCarver sings some great American standards. It isn't bad enough.

Arizona Fall League:

    • Surprise 6, Peoria 4
      • Jordan Danks went 0-for-3 with an RBI and a HBP.
      • C.J. Retherford tripled.
      • Justin Cassel started and allowed three runs in three innings on four hits and a walk. He struck out four.
      • Matt Long gave up two runs on three hits over two innings. No walks, one K.

And 0-for-3 officially qualifies as a "slow start" these days.
