As noted last week, the White Sox added some coal to the lukewarm hot stove via their three-way deal with the Royals and the Dodgers. The addition of Joakim Soria from the Royals will make him the 85th player to appear in a game for both franchises. By now, you can see where this is leading. Your mission for today, should you choose to accept it: name the players who have appeared in the most games for both the White Sox and the Royals. Now, allow me to help slow your quickening pulse: no, you do not have to name all 85 players. To make the list *more* manageable, I've set some limits:
- For batters: to qualify, a batter must have logged at least 80 games with each team.
- For pitchers: to qualify, a pitcher must have logged at least 20 games as a starter, 40 relief appearances, or a combination of both, with each team.
Good luck!
Other quiz parameters
- As usual, last names only are accepted, in addition to both first and last.
- I've given you ten minutes to attempt completion.
- For hints, I've provided the player's length of tenure with the White Sox, and the primary position that they played.
Useless information to amaze, annoy, confound, and/or confuse your friends:
- The batter who played the least for each team? Angel Sanchez, with one game (2 ABs in 2013) with the Sox and 8 games (27 ABs in 2006) with the Royals.
- On the pitching side, Rich Saveur (1996/1992) and Pete Filson (1986/1990) are tied with 3 appearances apiece for the Sox and 8 with the Royals.
- 249: the most combined home runs for a player on this list.
