The followed-from-work bullet point recap:
*The White Sox dropped their sixth straight series, or seventh if you count the snowed-out one in Minnesota.
*Felix Hernandez survived early haymakers from the White Sox offense. Yoan Moncada blasted his first pitch of the game out to right for a quick 1-0 lead, and Yolmer Sanchez followed with a double. He stole third and scored on Tim Anderson's broken-bat flare to left.
*James Shields had a 2018 James Shields line: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 1 HR
*Nelson Cruz was one thorn in his side. He delivered a pair of game-tying two-out singles that found holes through the shifted infield.
*A Nicky Delmonico error set up the first. He charged hard on Jean Segura's sinking liner with hopes of catching it for the third out, but he couldn't smother the short hop, and so Segura took second. Shields walked Robinson Cano, but Cruz cashed in the run.
*Cruz's second single was even more annoying, as Shields was on the verge of defusing a two-on, nobody out situaton with a flyout and a popout.
*The Sox had regained the lead in the bottom of the third. Three singles loaded the bases with one out, and Daniel Palka scored the runner from third with a dribbler up the first-base line for an RBI in his major league debut.
*Mike Zunino's opposite-field blast in the sixth was only the second homer allowed by Shields this season, but it was good enough to decide the game.
*The White Sox didn't stand much of a chance against Seattle's bullpen this series. James Pazos, Juan Nicasio and Edwin Diaz combined to strike out six over three perfect innings.
*The Sox bullpen overcame Gregory Infante allowing four baserunners over two outs' time to throw three scoreless innings. Aaron Bummer lived up to the LOOGY billing by striking out Ben Gamel with the bases loaded.
*Sanchez committed his second error of the season when his running throw pulled Matt Davidson off the bag, just barely.
*Davidson replaced Jose Abreu, who departed the game after starting it while battling flu-like symptoms.
*Despite two errors, the Sox had a good day on defense. Anderson made an incredible leaping catch in the first inning, Adam Engel covered center well, and Infante and Moncada teamed up to pick off Segura at second, which is how he allowed four baserunners and zero runs.
*Palka went 0-for-4 with the aforementioned RBI in his debut. He swung at the very first pitch he saw and flied out to left.
*Following up on this morning's post, Moncada struck out three times after his homer -- twice looking, once swinging. He fouled off hittable pitches on strike two on both of his backward Ks.
