Zack Collins entered tonight with one of the more bizarre hitting lines in baseball:

.054/.294/.135.

How does one go about compiling that? By going 2-for-37 with a homer and 13 walks. It's basically a fun-house version of his performance at Winston-Salem, where his hit tool didn't really allow his renowned batting eye to play up. Throw in 19 strikeouts and 51 plate appearances, and the lack of contact lowers his ceiling.

Anyway, this is to say he needed a night like tonight. He doubled his season hit total by doubling up on doubles in the Barons' 9-5 win over Pensacola. Video of the first double is above, and the second one is here:

Collins also drew one of them walks, and, more importantly, didn't strike out once. Add that to his line, and he's now hitting a slightly more reasonable .098/.321/.220.

It's hard to say Collins gained ground on Seby Zavala, though. The latter also went 2-for-4, and he belted his fifth homer. Zavala did strike out twice, though, and so that's probably enough to give Collins a slight edge for the night.
