The White Sox optioned Ryan Cordell to Charlotte on Monday, so they can't summon him back to Chicago until April 19 unless injury arises.
In the meantime, Cordell can make the White Sox miss him more than they imagined with more nights like this one.
Cordell hit for the cycle in Charlotte's 10-9 victory over Norfolk, one capped with a Charlie Tilson walk-off single. His path to history:
- Second-inning double.
- Fourth-inning three-run homer.
- Sixth-inning triple.
- Eighth-inning single.
He then added a fifth hit for good measure, an infield single that opened the Knights' two-run ninth. He scored his fourth run of the evening to tie the game. MiLB.com posted the video, with the link here in case it doesn't allow immediate embedding:
For his part, Cordell said he was trying to get on base during that fourth plate appearances, as the Knights had fallen behind. A solid single allowed him to accomplish the feat incidentally, rather than stretching for it:
