The White Sox farm system is off to a banged-up start, but a couple of key prospects on the injured list will hopefully get into the box scores on a regular basis starting this week.
The Sox said that Luis Basabe and Zack Burdi will begin rehab stints in Kannapolis on Monday. Basabe is coming off a broken hamate bone in his left hand, which he suffered at the start of spring training. Burdi, who still hasn't reached his pre-Tommy John surgery velocity, was on the shelf with a lat strain.
Since neither player had a proper spring training, the White Sox might want to bring both back slowly. In Basabe's case, there's no rush to get him back to Birmingham immediately given the logjam of Barons outfielders, as well as the availability of outfield reps at both A-ball levels. Give it a couple weeks, and maybe somebody like Joel Booker will force his way into Charlotte, or maybe Blake Rutherford will have to return to Winston-Salem.
In Burdi's case, it'd be nice to see him in Winston-Salem in short order, mostly because the Dash stream their games.
