White Sox Game Recaps

Indians 9, White Sox 0: Manny Bañuelos exits early

Followed-from-work bullet-point recap:

*Had the last series finale between the White Sox and Indians not been shortened by rain, it might have ended up in the same score. Manny Bañuelos and Carlos Carrasco fared just as well today as they did in that game, but the Indians had a few more chances to run up the margin here.

*Bañuelos' lines show little difference:

    • Thursday: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 5 K, 2 HR
    • Today: 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 3 HR

The difference is that Bañuelos left this one with a sore shoulder in the fifth inning, and the White Sox will learn more about his injury on Wednesday.

*Jordan Luplow went deep twice for his third and fourth homers of the year, all of which have been hit against the Sox, and three against Bañuelos. He hit another off Josh Osich, who relieved Bañuelos on short notice and had a rare rough outing.

*Carrasco continued his brand of dominance over the White Sox by scattering six singles over seven shutout innings. He's now 7-1 with a 1.09 ERA against the Sox since the start of 2019, and the one loss was in relief.

*Carrasco didn't overpower the Sox, but he kept the Sox from extra-base hits to make threats harder to come by, and the Sox were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position when they were on the verge of cobbling something together.

*James McCann went 0-for-4, but he had a good throwing game by cutting down a couple of runners at second. One was a thwarted stolen-base attempt that minimized the damage by Robert Perez's homer, and another was a throw that nabbed Carlos Santana, who tried advancing on his RBI single when Nicky Delmonico threw home

*Ryan Cordell couldn't pick up the ball cleanly when charging a roller to throw home, resulting in an unearned run.

*Tim Anderson is back succeeding with his steals, now 13-for-14.
