White Sox Minor Keys: May 2, 2019

Intimidators Stadium before Game 1. (Jonathan Lee)

The White Sox named their minor league hitter and pitchers of the month for April. The former was no surprise, but the panelists had to dig deeper for the latter.

Luis Robert took the title for the position players, which, of course. Robert batted .453/.512/.920 in 19 games for Winston-Salem with eight homers, three triples, five doubles and eight stolen bases. He was too good for the level, and Rick Hahn said as much on Thursday:

The top pitcher was a little more difficult to determine, and the Sox went all the way down to Low-A and tapped Konnor Pilkington for the honors. The third-round pick posted a 2.01 ERA and allowed just 20 baserunners (10 hits, seven walks, three HBPs) over 22⅓ innings, striking out 28. Like Robert, he's too good for the level, but it was worth giving him a taste of success after a mediocre pro debut in 2018. There's room in the Winston-Salem rotation if they want to move him up.
