The White Sox' 40-man roster was at capacity, but they had a roster spot to play with since they'd waited to put Carlos Rodón on the 60-day injured list.
They used that spot on Jimmy Cordero, claiming the 27-year-old right-handed reliever off waivers from the Mariners. He'll hang out in Charlotte's bullpen as he gets acclimated to new digs yet again.
Cordero is this year's Oliver Drake, as the White Sox are his fourth organization this season. He opened the year with Washington, but has spent more of the season moving. The Blue Jays claimed him from Washington in mid-May, and the Mariners from Toronto in late May. Early June brings a new address, this one in Charlotte.
Cordero had a strong season for Triple-A Syracuse that merited a 22-game audition with the Nationals in 2018, but he hasn't been able to replicate that success at any level this year. He's getting looks because he sits 97-98 and keeps more than half of batted balls on the ground, but strikes have been an issue this year.
