The followed-from-work bullet-point recap:
*A three-batter sequence in the sixth inning spoiled Lucas Giolito's afternoon. He bounced back from a shaky first couple innings to set a White Sox record with eight consecutive strikeouts. Alas, with game tied at 2, the sixth opened with a full-count walk to Whit Merrifield, followed by a Jorge Soler single, then a first-pitch assault by Hunter Dozier that made it a 5-2 game.
*Two bloopers hurt the White Sox' chances at getting back in the game. Tim Anderson should've scored on James McCann's two-out single through the left side in the seventh, which would've made it 5-4. Instead, he stumbled and fell rounding for home and had to retreat back to third, and Leury García ended up striking out. The Sox never scored a fourth run.
*In the ninth, Alex Colomé issued a six-pitch walk to Bubba Starling. When Brett Phillips bunted him to second, Colomé tried to cut down the lead runner, but instead made a sad-assed toss well wide of second into center field. Starling took third, then scored on a pitch that got through McCann's wickets.
*The Sox were able to get the tying run on base, but García struck out again with the bases loaded to end it. He stranded six over his two trips after entering the game as a pinch hitter.
*García replaced Daniel Palka, who got his second hit of the season on a weak grounder to second that he beat out for an infield single. He hasn't lifted a ball to the pull field since March.
*Giolito struck out 12 over six innings, but he gave up five runs in his ninth loss of the season, and his ERA rose to 3.41.
*Anderson went 2-for-5, keeping his league-leading average at .333. Jose Abreu added to his league-leading RBI total with a sac fly.
*Yoan Moncada went 3-for-5 from the leadoff spot, and one of the singles came after he attempted to bunt.
*The White Sox outhit the Royals 11-6, but the Sox only had one extra-base hit (a McCann double) to Kansas City's four (two homers, two doubles).
*The White Sox locked in their seventh consecutive losing season for the first time since 1944-50, while losing the season series to the Royals 10-9.
