White Sox Minor Keys: Sept. 4, 2019

Luis Robert (Laura Wolff / Charlotte Knights)

Three White Sox prospects received honors this week, but none of them are in Chicago. Only one of them has an ironclad reason against it.

*Luis Robert received USA Today's Minor League Player of the Year Award. The story is worth your time, as it offers a comprehensive summary of his progress with quotes from the most related parties. This part I found the most interesting:

“What really impressed me this year is how quick he learned everything we were trying to say to him,” Vizquel says. [...]

One of the things his coaches have loved the most is Robert’s ability to put instruction into practice. That hasn’t always been easy due to the language barrier, but Robert has worked hard on that as well. Vizquel says he never missed an English class the White Sox offered for their Spanish-speaking players.

*Yermin Mercedes was named the organization's Minor League Player of the Month for August, hitting .317/.394/.646 with seven homers, six doubles and 28 RBIs over 24 games.

*Jonathan Stiever was named the White Sox Pitcher of the Month for posting a 2.08 ERA with 26 strikeouts over 26 innings for the Winston-Salem Dash. He just finished throwing a career high 145, and he hasn't even seen Double-A, so it's fine if he's done for the year.

Idaho Falls 2, Great Falls 1

    • Cabera Weaver went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.
    • Harvin Mendoza was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
    • Lency Delgado, 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.
    • Luis Mieses was 1-for-4 with a double.
    • Sam Abbott, 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout, and he was picked off.
    • Anderson Comas struck out as a pinch hitter.
