While White Sox fans are still floating in a cloud of euphoria with the signing of Yasmani Grandal yesterday, the team just announced a new contract with Jose Abreu.

In total, Abreu will make $50 million over the next three seasons bringing his career earnings with the White Sox to $118 million when the new contract expires. There is a bit of creative accounting with the agreement that voids the $17.8 million qualifying offer he accepted last week.
In 2020, Abreu receives a $5 million signing bonus but his base salary will be $11 million, a savings of $6.8 million overall to the White Sox this season. That base salary gets boosted to $16 million in 2021, and in 2022, Abreu is scheduled to make $18 million but $4 million of that will be deferred.
With the new deal, Abreu is the 11th highest paid first baseman in 2020 behind Anthony Rizzo of the Chicago Cubs.
