Yoán Moncada returns before White Sox’s first night intrasquad game

For those who connected the dots between the two positive COVID-19 tests and the two injured list spots, well, fine work, gumshoes.

Yoán Moncada came off the injured list this evening, and in speaking to reporters, he confirmed that he was one of the Sox who tested positive. He said he was mostly asymptomatic, but he had reasons to remain quarantined in Chicago.

Assuming Moncada faces no other issues pertaining to the coronavirus, the only lingering concern is how fast and safely Moncada can get ready. He wasn't able to do baseball activities while quarantined, so while he says he hopes to be in the lineup for Opening Day on July 24, Rick Renteria (who is back from a funeral) is going to see how he handles the ramp-up period for a few days before making any determinations.

José Ruiz, the other player on the injured list, also returned to the roster. He's heading to train with the taxi squad in Schaumburg.
