For those wondering why the White Sox didn't call up Jace Fry from his rehab stint, it's because they didn't have any designs on how to use him in the major-league bullpen as currently constructed.
The White Sox added Fry back to the 40-man roster after bringing him off the 60-day injured list, but instead of putting him back on the 26-man roster, they used a minor-league option instead, with Alex McRae getting the boot from the 40-man.
Fry's been effective with Charlotte thus far, allowing just 13 baserunners over 13 innings while striking out 19. But the walks have a tendency to clump on him, which makes him harder to trust than any of the other options on hand. and the White Sox probably will continue to prefer Aaron Bummer and Garrett Crochet from the bullpen's left side.
If nothing else, Fry adds a rosterable option at some point, which the White Sox can use as long as Zack Burdi is the default call-up option in Charlotte.
