Sporcle Saturday: Let’s play two

Good morning!

Have you heard? The White Sox clinched the American League Central! I know, hard to believe you nearly missed that. Thank goodness Sox Machine is here for all of your informational needs pertaining to the White Sox.

That clinch, however, put me in a bit of a pickle. It was an event too large to ignore for a Sporcle theme, but I also was interested in highlighting a historical moment that happened on this date in 1970: Luis Aparicio setting the MLB record for most games played at shortstop, 2,219. The solution? A two for one! Yes, today's Sporcle features two quizzes:

    1. Name all of the players involved in the game the last time the White Sox clinched a division title;
    2. Name the shortstops in franchise history who have appeared in at least 50 games with the White Sox, and at least 80% of those appearances came at that position.

The first quiz features 27 players for you to name, the second for you to fill in 29. All told, that's 56 entries between the two quizzes: how many can you get? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

    • I've allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts for each Sporcle.
    • For hints: the first quiz is grouped by team and provides the position of the player, the second quiz displays length of tenure on the White Sox, and number of games played. To reiterate, that number isn't necessarily the total number of games played at shortstop, since I'm requiring only 80%. For instance, Aparicio appeared in 1,506 games at short with the Sox, but 1,511 games in total.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

    • The average triple-slash of the players on the shortstop list is unsurprisingly lacking in power: .253/.308/.333
    • The highest OPS on that list? .798, while the lowest is .448
    • Two players from the shortstop list feature as entries in the clinch Sporcle; a third, of course, was in the dugout for that game.
