At first glance, Kade McClure's 5.63 ERA at Charlotte seems like it could eliminate him from consideration as the White Sox seek to fill innings at the MLB level the rest of the year. But with Reynaldo López losing his mojo and Mike Wright failing to give the White Sox the desired length in consecutive outings -- and with McClure requiring 40-man protection at the end of the year -- it's possible you could see a straight swap next week. The White Sox could be that desperate.
McClure wouldn't be a reach, because he's put quite a dent in an ERA that climbed to 10.80 after three starts:
Time | IP | H | R | ER | HR | BB | K | ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
First three starts | 13.1 | 17 | 17 | 16 | 4 | 5 | 13 | 10.80 |
Last four | 18.2 | 16 | 4 | 4 | 2 | 5 | 18 | 1.93 |
Total | 32 | 33 | 21 | 20 | 6 | 10 | 31 | 5.63 |
He's similarly found a footing at Truist Field, which was the biggest culprit in his stats:
He just topped 100 innings, which isn't new territory for him after throwing 121⅔ innings for Winston-Salem and Kannapolis in 2019, so there's the possibility that he could reach Chicago before the end of the season, in front of a fan base that might remember him from such films as "Mitch Trubisky's Friend."
