Kannapolis Cannon Ballers on brick

Wilfred Veras made my honorable mentions outside my top-10 prospect list for reasons entirely based on the stat line. He hit .322/.416/.533 as an 18-year-old making his professional debut in the ACL. He lacks the defensive profile to give him much room for error on the other side of the ball, but Bryan Ramos and José Rodríguez are current examples of players who distinguished themselves in such a precocious manner in the former Fire League, and they haven't made anybody regret jumping on their bandwagons early.

Entering last week's series against Myrtle Beach, Veras hadn't yet figured out how to produce an encore with Kannapolis, carrying a .239/.311/.360 line into the game.

A little over a week later, Veras is hitting .246/.322/.434 thanks to four consecutive games with a homer, including one tonight against Down East. Unfortunately, Kannapolis is playing in Down East, which doesn't stream games in 2022, so you'll just have to imagine the carnage.

Charlotte 9, Durham 8

    • Eloy Jiménez went 1-for-4 with a homer, walk and strikeout.
    • Carlos Pérez came up a triple short of the cycle during his 3-for-4 night, but he drew a walk and hit the walk-off.
    • Yolbert Sánchez went 1-for-3.

Notes:

*The Knights trailed 7-1 entering the bottom of the sixth. Here's the video of Pérez's heroics:

    • Christian Mena: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
