White Sox Minor Keys: June 7, 2022

Lenyn Sosa

Josh Harrison went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 4-0 White Sox winner against the Dodgers, and it wasn't even an inconspicuous 0-fer. He struck out on four pitches with the bases loaded to end the sixth inning, surrounded by a pair of routine groundouts. He's now hitting .176/.258/.269 over 37 games.

The White Sox have multiple guys who could probably do the same thing -- namely Yolbert Sánchez in Charlotte, Lenyn Sosa in Birmingham -- but Rick Hahn publicly dismissed the idea in his pregame homestand-opening media session. Per James Fegan:

Rick Hahn said prospect infielders Yolbert Sánchez and Lenyn Sosa could help the major league team this season. Sosa won Southern League Player of the Month for May at Double-A Birmingham.

"(Sosa) has been hot as a pistol and provides a little bit of versatility, given the various infield positions he can play. Obviously we're not at the position yet to say they're a clear upgrade."

Perhaps Hahn will indeed drag his feet for weeks, because he also said this...

“Players tend not to fundamentally just lose ability. It doesn’t just evaporate. Certainly, guys decline as they get older, but it tends not to just evaporate on them."

... even though his free-agent history is littered with such cases. But as Dallas Keuchel's DFA this year and Adam Eaton's last year show, if the White Sox are going to jettison anybody, they're not going to telegraph the move by providing anything resembling a countdown. They will believe in somebody like Harrison until they don't, and players like Sánchez and Sosa won't be options until they are.
