Sporcle Saturday: At long last

The Rucker Archive/Icon Sportswire

Good morning!

Last Sunday finally saw Minnie Miñoso inducted into the Hall of Fame, much to the delight of all. I don't know that there's much that I can add to the accolades, but I'm always struck by the thought of how much of a revelation his style of play must have been to both the White Sox and the American League in general.

When looking at his Baseball Reference page, something which immediately jumps out are his bolded numbers. Three columns in particular are generally where those bolded numbers lie: triples, stolen bases, and HBPs. Multiple times across multiple years, Miñoso led the MLB or the American league in triples, stolen bases, or both, and that's what today's Sporcle is all about.

(We'll leave HBPs for another time; you should know that Miñoso ranks 10th all-time in that particular category and he moves up to seventh place if you remove the guys from the 19th century.)

In particular: which White Sox players have logged seasons where they logged at least 10 triples and at least 20 stolen bases in the same season. There are 41 entries in all: how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

    • I've allotted 15 minutes for completion attempts.
    • For hints, I've provided the season and the position of the player in question.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

    • In case you were curious about who during the 2022 season has come the closest to leading MLB in both categories, it's (gulp) Bobby Witt, Jr., who currently has 5 triples and 20 stolen bases.
    • The last time a player in MLB logged at least 10 triples and 20 stolen bases was, strangely enough, two other Royals, both in 2019: Whit Merrifield and Adalberto Mondesi.
    • The most home runs from any player on this list is 20, set by the last White Sox player to do this, in 2001.
