Sporcle Saturday: White Sox managers, 50+ games

Good morning!

As Jim wrote about so adeptly on Thursday morning, the White Sox haven't exactly been forthcoming about what's going on with Tony La Russa and the managerial position. Should this be the end of Tony La Russa 2: Electric Boogaloo, he'll finish with right around a .533 winning percentage, and a .513 percentage overall taking into account both managerial stints with the franchise.

That .533 winning percentage certainly seems to be giving more credit than is due to La Russa based on how this season has played out, and I look forward (hopefully) to the tell-all oral histories to come, should this era have indeed come to a close. Say what you will about the last couple of seasons but it certainly had its moments that provided #content.

At any rate, let's take a stroll through White Sox managers of the past: today's Sporcle is all about that. Specifically: how many of managers can you name throughout franchise history who managed at least 50 games for the team? In all that's 33 entries: how many can you name? Good luck! (Feel free to kvetch about some of the names on this list in the comments section)

Quiz Parameters

    • I've allotted 15 minutes for completion attempts.
    • For hints, I've provided the tenure, and the winning percentage of the manager.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

    • Three guys not on this list (not including Miguel Cairo) with single-digit managerial stints: Doug Rader (1986, 2 games), Don Cooper (2011, 2 games), Ed Walsh (1924, 3 games).
    • La Russa currently sits at third-most games managed in White Sox history, with 1,327.
    • 10 guys who have managed the White Sox have Hall of Fame credentials in one form or another.
