After racking up 21 hits on Thursday night, the Chicago White Sox hit parade continued in Oakland with another 20+ hit game. The first time in franchise history having multiple 20+ hit games in a single series. Elvis Andrus hit another home run in his revenge tour as the White Sox crushed Oakland again, 10-2.
The sequence of events was out of order in the first inning as the White Sox had two singles and a walk but didn’t score because of a double play hit by Yoan Moncada. But things got in order in the second inning when Yasmani Grandal drove in AJ Pollock to start the scoring. Josh Harrison followed up with another single, moving Grandal to second base. Both got to jog home when Andrus crushed a three-run homer out in center field.
In the fourth inning, another hit barrage expanded the lead. Moncada and Jose Abreu singled to set the stage with runners on the corners for Eloy Jimenez. Focused on driving pitches to right field, Jimenez settled for a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0. With two outs, Pollock singled to move Abreu over to third base. After a wild pitch from A’s starting pitcher Adrian Martinez moved Pollock to second base, Andrew Vaughn sliced a double down the left field line, and the White Sox were ahead 7-0.
Martinez's final line is scary looking, finishing at 3.2 IP 14 H 7 ER 1 BB 2 K. For a right-handed starter with a sinker. Usually, that spells trouble for the White Sox. That wasn’t the case today.
Lance Lynn started for the White Sox, looking to continue his hot streak. He appeared to be hurt running to first base in the opening frame. Walking around the mound and trying to shake off what he felt in his previously injured knee. Lynn would stay in the game without any velocity hindrance.
Oakland did score two runs off Lynn, but it was a result of shaky defense from Josh Harrison, who committed two errors. The worst was in the sixth inning when there were runners on first and second base. A chopper from Stephen Vogt appeared to be a tailor-made double play, but Harrison bobbled the grounder and compounded the problem with an errant throw to second base, which rolled all the way to Oakland’s bullpen in left field. At that moment, it was a 7-2 game.
Lynn would finish throwing 107 pitches, going 6 IP 3 H 2 R 0 ER 1 BB 5 K, and lowering his season ERA to 4.07.
Harrison made up for his poor defense by going 3-for-4 with a walk. He was one of four White Sox hitters with three or more hits in the game.
- AJ Pollock: 4-for-5, 3 R. His first four-hit game with the White Sox
- Andrew Vaughn: 4-for-5, 2 RBI
- Eloy Jimenez: 3-for-4, 3 RBI
