The Winston-Salem Dash and Kannapolis Intimidators wrapped up their seasons on Sunday, leaving only the Birmingham Barons and Charlotte Knights standing. It's not because they made their leagues' postseasons -- the schedules just happen to be longer. No congratulations are necessary.
Birmingham wraps up their season with six games against Rocket City in Huntsville, while the Charlotte Knights carry on for two more series after this week against Norfolk. First they'll head down to Jacksonville for six against the Jumbo Shrimp before returning home for three more against Durham before calling it a 2022 season.
Norfolk 12, Charlotte 4
- Mark Payton went 0-for-2 with two walks and a sac fly.
- Lenyn Sosa, 1-for-5.
- Carlos Pérez was 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
- Adam Haseley went 1-for-4.
- Yolbert Sánchez went 2-for-4.
Birmingham 5, Rocket City 2
- Luis Mieses went 1-for-5.
- Bryan Ramos, 1-for-3 with a walk.
- Oscar Colás grounded into two double plays, but he also hit his 14th homer and added a single.
- Yoelqui Céspedes was 0-for-3 with a strikeout and an HBP.
- Colson Montgomery was 1-for-3 with his second homer and an HBP.
- Wilfred Veras made it three homers during his 1-for-4 night, striking out once.
- DJ Gladney also was 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
- Norge Vera is still having control problems: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 4 K, 29 of 65 pitches for strikes.
