Good morning!
As Jim noted in his post on Wednesday, the 2023 bullpen pecking order may be a bit more uncertain than in previous seasons with the absence of Liam Hendriks.
Still, looking at the roster from last season, much of the cast will be returning even if their roles may not be the reprisals once envisioned. That continuity made me morbidly curious, however: how many of the pitchers used in relief have stuck around since the initial teardown of the roster following the 2016-2017 offseason? As it turns out: one. One guy has been here dating back to 2017!
Now, of course, one name would make for a terrible quiz, so I’m tasking you with attempting to name all the pitchers to appear in relief from 2017 to the present. In all, that’s 122 player seasons: how many can you name? Good luck!
Quiz Parameters
- I’ve allotted 15 minutes for completion attempts.
- For hints, I’ve provided the season and number of innings pitched in relief.
- To qualify, a player must have merely appeared in a game in relief, even if they didn’t record an out or may be more commonly associated as a starter.
- Position players are not included.
Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:
- 9 position players have made a pitching appearance since 2017.
- Of the players listed, the pitcher with the most innings in relief (and appearances, for that matter) has logged 213.2 IP over 228 games.
