A healthy Matt Foster would have reported to the Charlotte Knights to start the season, making use of his last remaining option.
But Foster hasn't been healthy since late in spring training, and he's gotten unhealthier with every report. He was shelved with a forearm strain on March 20, and opened the season on the 15-day injured list. He was then moved to the 60-day IL to make room for Nick Solak's two-day Charlotte Knights career, and now he's officially out for the year with Tommy John surgery.
Per White Sox, RHP Matt Foster underwent successful Tommy John surgery this week.

Between Foster's injury and José Ruiz's DFA, the White Sox have suffered early losses from their low-leverage ranks, which explains why Baseball America's latest minor-league transactions update shows the Sox trying to find replacements from anywhere.
