The Charlotte Knights started last week, but with the other three full-season affiliates set to start their schedules on Thursday, it's officially time for the Minor Keys.
If you're new to Sox Machine, this is the morning stop where you'll find (and share) important minor league news, along with the box scores, lines from key White Sox prospects, and other notable performances and highlights. I generally limit "key" to the top 15 or 20 prospects, along with other personal favorites. If you have your personal favorites, by all means stump for them in the comments, because guys will play themselves on and off the list.
(For instance, Yolbert Sánchez probably won't be getting daily updates to start the season until he shows a modicum of power at Triple-A.)
Jeff Cohen previewed the Charlotte Knights 2023 roster last week -- position players, then pitchers -- and then provided a summary of their first weekend of the season. Over the coming days, we'll have previews for the other three affiliates as rosters are released. The Barons broke the seal a few days early, and here's hoping the others follow suit.
Come Friday, we'll be in full swing with a recap of Thursday's action, weather willing. Every affiliate will be on the road: Birmingham against the Tennessee Smokies, Winston-Salem against the Hickory Crawdads, and Kannapolis against the Down East Wood Ducks.
Charlotte 6, Columbus 2
- Lenyn Sosa continued his blazing start: 3-for-5 with his first two homers of the season.
- Carlos Pérez is up to two homers after going deep for during a 1-for-5 night. He struck out once.
- Jonathan Stiever: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K. The Columbus broadcast didn't offer velocity readings.
- Franklin German had control issues: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 1 HBP, 23 of 41 pitches for strikes.
Highlights:
*Sosa's homers were basically carbon copies over the right-center wall.
