White Sox Minor Keys: April 7, 2023

Charlotte Knights pitcher A.J. Alexy

A.J. Alexy (Laura Wolff / Charlotte Knights)

Considering the White Sox have allowed double-digit run totals in three of their last four games, the last thing you want to see is the three active minor league affiliates allowing 41 runs over their four games -- especially since two of them were seven-inning affairs.

Alas, the short-notice promotion of Jesse Scholtens took away one starter for Charlotte's doubleheader in Columbus. In Game 2, A.J. Alexy became the early clubhouse leader for the worst line you'll see from a pitcher in the White Sox organization this season, especially now that Alec Hansen has retired.

Alexy faced 11 batters, but he only retired four of them. He walked the other seven.

The sequence:

  1. Six-pitch walk
  2. Flyout
  3. Eight-pitch walk
  4. Lineout
  5. Five-pitch walk
  6. Five-pitch walk
  7. Flyout-- START OF SECOND INNING --
  8. Four-pitch walk
  9. Five-pitch walk
  10. Backwards K
  11. Four-pitch walk

Alexy, whose spring training was interrupted by a left oblique issue, limiting him to just two-thirds of an inning during Cactus League play. Add those two outs to his start on Friday, and his line for the season is pretty gross: 2 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 9 BB, 1 K, 1 HR.
