White Sox Minor Keys: May 6, 2023

When the White Sox signed Clint Frazier to a minor-league deal 10 days ago, it struck me as the "why-not" sort of move that's characteristic of a rebuilding year.

With the White Sox's record characteristic of a rebuilding year at 11-23, and with an appendectomy keeping Eloy Jiménez out of action for the next four to six weeks, Frazier might be a little more relevant than I envisioned.

At least Frazier is trying to make himself relevant. He's had a fast start with the Knights, and it continued with a big game on Saturday, as he went 2-for-4 with a walk and a moonshot homer that gave Charlotte the lead.

Frazier is hitting .391/.517/.826 with six walks in his first seven games with the Knights.

Charlotte 12, Gwinnett 9

• Oscar Colás went 3-for-5 with a double, HBP and strikeout.
• Yoán Moncada played third base, singling, walking and striking out in three trips.
• Clint Frazier went 2-for-4 with a homer and a walk.
• Sean Burke: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 38 of 67 pitches for strikes.

Notes:

*Moncada was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the sixth. I'm inclined to think that he played the standard half-game in the field at the start of a rehab stint, but assumptions are never safe.

Chattanooga 5, Birmingham 3

• José Rodríguiez went 0-fro-3 with a walk.
• Luis Mieses was 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.
• Yoelqui Céspedes went 1-for-4 with his third homer and two strikeouts.
• Matthew Thompson: 5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 60 of 91 pitches for strikes.

Winston-Salem 8, Greensboro 0

• Terrell Tatum went 3-for-5 with a K and two stolen bases.
• DJ Gladney went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
• Wilfred Veras singled twice and struck out twice.
• Wes Kath singled and struck out thrice.
• Jonathan Cannon's best start yet: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 49 of 73 pitches for strikes.

Kannapolis 7, Augusta 4

• Jordan Sprinkle went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
• Brooks Baldwin was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
