White Sox prospect Jacob Burke

Colson Montgomery's Kannapolis record for consecutive games reaching safely didn't last long.

Jacob Burke erased it after one year by reaching base for the 33rd straight game, which is remarkable because he's only played 33 games for the Cannon Ballers this season.

He met the requirements with room to spare, homering for the second consecutive game and adding two walks. He's now hitting .325/.426/.525 on the season.

The disclaimer is that Montgomery's Kannapolis streak only ended because he received a promotion to Winston-Salem, where he reached base in his first 18 games with the Dash for a grand total of 51. Burke still has work to do in that regard.

The question is whether he'll receive a boost up the chain himself. The Sox could probably make room with the Dash by promoting Terrell Tatum to Birmingham, but sometimes teams like to wait until the draft until making rest-of-season plans for the lower levels. If Burke has to wait until July 9 or thereabouts, at least he'll get a little extra time to pad his stats.
