Auburn University announces Everett Teaford

(Auburn University)

The White Sox are going to have to a find a new minor league pitching coordinator, because Everett Teaford is now Auburn University's pitching coach.

Auburn announced the hire on Friday afternoon:

"I absolutely believe Everett Teaford will be a gamechanger at the college level. He checks so many boxes and will help us continue to enhance our program," Thompson said. "He has pitched at the highest level, helped develop professional pitchers, served as a scout, had an exceptional college career, and hails from an important section of Auburn's recruiting footprint in Georgia.

"Teaford's acumen, drive, personality, and ability to understand and implement programs and strategies will make a positive impact on our current and future student-athletes."

Teaford, who joined the White Sox in 2018, was the team's most visible analytically-forward pitching voice during the Don Cooper era, somebody who could translate Trackman data into an easily digestible game plan. He remained in the role during the Ethan Katz era, and was usually cited in any James Fegan story talking about pitching prospects making noteworthy developments (here's one from last December on Cristian Mena).

On one hand, it can be seen as a blow to the system. On the other hand, you'll see the Minor Keys are pretty short on pitching success stories. That's not to say it's Teaford's fault, but perhaps his exit will create an opportunity for the White Sox to find the next evolution on Teaford's position, or simply give that role more help.
