The White Sox optioned Adam Haseley to Charlotte, but they did not call up a left-handed outfielder to replace him on the 26-man roster.
Instead, they brought up Carlos Pérez, apparently to enable Pedro Grifol's frantic late-game switches:
“We pinch-run for [Yasmani] Grandal; we pinch-hit for Seby [Zavala],” Grifol said. “I don’t want to get in a situation where we have to do both in the same game, and we can’t do it because we don’t have a third catcher.”
Having three “is really important for us,” but Grifol’s not sure how long he’ll have them all. If Perez isn’t used a lot, “we’ll make a move,” he said.
Meanwhile, all Oscar Colás did was homer twice against Norfolk on Friday night, giving him six homers over his last five games. The first was a 110.3-mph laser off the right-field foul pole...
... and the second was a lesser, 101.5 mph blast, but off a lefty.
