White Sox Minor Keys: Sept. 14, 2023

Truist Field in Charlotte

(Laura Wolff / Charlotte Knights)

The Charlotte Knights and Birmingham Barons are both stuck on 49 wins, and I'm curious which White Sox affiliate will end up with the higher total at the end of the 2023 regular season.

On one hand, the Knights should be the easy call because they have an extra six-game series next week, whereas the Barons are done for the year on Sunday.

On the other hand, the Knights have the worst second-half record in the International League, and by a staggering amount. They're 14-52 in the second half with a run differential of -200, which is 11½ games and 120 runs worse than the next-closest team, the Syracuse Mets.

The Barons occupy the second-half cellar in the Southern League at 24-42, but there's a worse run differential because the Barons are actually near the league average in runs scored. The Knights, conversely, have scored 52 fewer runs than the next-worst offense while allowing the most runs.

If you find it difficult to take Chris Getz seriously as a general manager, you have your reasons.

Notes:

*Oscar Colás will be playing in the Dominican Winter League.

*Nick Nastrini told Jeff Cohen what he throws, in pretty good detail:
