Sporcle Saturday: NRIs, 2024 edition

Good morning!

Much like Groundhog Day can serve as an unofficial marker on the path towards springtime and warmer weather, the White Sox releasing their list of non-roster invitees serves as mine. This year the organization took their sweet time sending the list out, but it's here and it's magnificent. (Your mileage may vary regarding its magnificence)

As Jim noted in the linked article above, last year's 12 NRIs is a significant number to see time in Chicago. Not only is that the most since Jim has been keeping track, it's the highest number that I've seen in researching the years prior to that. I'm pleased to note that I was able to --via the magic of various newspaper archives and the Internet Archive Wayback Machine-- add 2001 through 2005 to the list already compiled.

As in past years this Sporcle will ask you to remember those NRIs who made their way to Chicago at some point during the season. We’re now up to 125 names: how many can you get? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted 25 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I’ve provided the year and the position of the player.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • Pitcher is the most common position to appear, comprising 62 of the 125 entries.
  • The fewest NRIs to appear in a season is 2, in 2010 and 2002.
