When the White Sox acquired Corey Julks from the Houston Astros on Wednesday for rookie-ball righty Corey Julks, Pedro Grifol gave a typically veiled, circumspect forecast.
“Our front office did a good job of identifying a right-handed hitter that we could use at some point, especially with this string of lefties that we’ve got in the next couple of days, the next couple of series and there’s a possibility that he’s a part of us,” Grifol said. “Maybe, maybe not. We’ll see where he is.”
To take Grifol literally, Julks made his organizational debut for Charlotte, so that's where he is in a geographical sense.* Julks played right field in Game 1 and DH'd in Game 2, going 1-for-3 with a strikeout in each game.
With lefties Nestor Cortes and Carlos Rodón bookending the weekend series at Yankee Stadium, we'll see if those are the only two games he plays for Charlotte, at least for now.
(*Although the jersey he wore was that of the Malmö Oat Milkers, for the Sox Machine Swedish contingent out there. It's kind of a convoluted MiLB-wide promotion, but whatever makes those teams money.)
