Two Baseball America-related notes:
No. 1: James is now Baseball America's monthly White Sox correspondent, writing about Jacob Gonzalez and Grant Taylor this week. If you're not a BA subscriber but you support Sox Machine, you can read his post about Gonzalez's start to 2024 from a couple weeks ago, along with this conversation with Paul Janish, to cover the same ground.
No. 2: Baseball America also updated its top 100 list for May, and Edgar Quero has clawed his way back on the board. He now sits at No. 97, after opening the season neither ranked nor in the accompanying "15 players who just missed" article. He's hitting .259/.340/.482 with a respectable 26 percent caught-stealing rate, so he's thriving in Double-A after surviving an absurdly aggressive assignment there last year.
As for the rest of the list, Colson Montgomery sits at No. 16, one spot below where he opened the season, while Noah Schultz advanced 10 spots from his season-opening ranking to No. 30. Drew Thorpe jumped even further, sliding up from No. 59 to No. 45.
