Sporcle Saturday: Striking out

Good morning!

At just over a third of the way through the season, there are a couple of players on the White Sox with some rather high strikeout totals. Paul DeJong sits at 61 Ks in 51 games played, while Andrew Vaughn has 53 Ks in 54 games. Extrapolating to a full season, both players would log at least 150 strikeouts with an OPS+ of under 100. Seems not good!

As you'll see with today's Sporcle, though, a high strikeout total doesn't necessarily indicate a poor season at the plate (I know I'm opening everybody's eyes with this nugget of information). Just last year one of the players on this list had one of the better offensive seasons in recent memory and still struck out 172 times.

At any rate, today's Sporcle is all about high strikeout seasons by White Sox batters throughout franchise history. It's an interesting mix of names which of course skew towards most recent times. To qualify, a batter must have struck out a minimum of 125 times in a season. That gives the quiz 47 entries: how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I've allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I've provided the year, number of strikeouts, and the position of the player.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • By OPS+, the highest was 199, in 1972...
  • ...While the lowest was 54, in 2011.
  • The average triple-slash of the players on this list is .249/.325/.447.
