Major League Baseball released the 2025 schedule, which provides White Sox fans the temporary respite of another season to think about before the drudgery of 2024 restarts on Friday.
The big news? We already have our Sox Machine/From the 108 Road Trip destination picked out, and it's exactly one year after this weekend's meetup in Kansas City. We'll be heading out to Pittsburgh to watch the White Sox open the second half against the Pirates July 18-20, so plan your calendars and reject your wedding invitations accordingly.
That's where my eyes first went, because with the White Sox abandoning any pretense of contending, you first have to find out what's going to be fun for you.
Other elements worth paying attention:
Some anniversaries: As the emblem on the top right of the schedule shows, it'll be the 125th anniversary of the American League and its founding members, as well as the 20th anniversary of the World Series team.
A cold start to the season: The White Sox open the season at home on March 27 with the first of three games against the Angels, before three against Minnesota, and there isn't a retractable roof or mild-to-warm-weather destination on the calendar until April 25, when the White Sox head to wherever the Athletics are playing. TBD has never encompassed so much TBD.
An early end to the home schedule: The White Sox will end the season with a six-game road trip against the Yankees and Nationals.
Weekends for the Cubs: The White Sox will play three games at Wrigley from May 16-18, and host the Cubs July 25-27. Depending on what the North Siders do at the trade deadline, the Crosstown Series may need all the help it can get in feeling like an event in 2025.
The other National League road trips: For those who pay attention to the every-other-year schedule to cross a ballpark off the list:
- Cincinnati: May 13-15
- New York (Mets): May 26-28
- Los Angeles (Dodgers): July 1-3
- Colorado: July 4-6
- Atlanta: Aug. 18-20
- Washington: Sept. 26-28
As for this weekend, Josh, James and I will be flying out to Kansas City over the course of the next two days. Between the Negro Leagues Museum Tour, barbecue and the ballgame, it should be a blast regardless of how the White Sox fare.
