White Sox Minor Keys: July 1, 2024

White Sox pitching prospect Ky Bush

Monday is usually the dark day for the White Sox's full-season affiliates, but Minor League Baseball has turned the holiday week into a Monday-Saturday series split between home and away. For instance, Birmingham is home against Rocket City through Wednesday, but then the series shifts to Huntsville Thursday through Saturday. The teams are then off Sunday and Monday for one more normal week, followed by the All-Star break.

The White Sox used the odd Monday on for plenty of news. They advanced Davis Martin's rehab stint from the Arizona Complex League to Winston-Salem, with whom he threw three easy innings of one-run ball Monday night.

The White Sox also promoted Ky Bush from Birmingham to Charlotte, which might explain why he didn't piggyback on Noah Schultz's Saturday start. That had been the custom for the incumbent Barons starters, but Bush instead started on Sunday, and now he'll get his next turn in Triple-A.

PERTINENT: Ky Bush restored his prospect status in strong first half

Bush posted a 2.12 ERA with 78 strikeouts against 75 baserunners over 80⅔ innings. If you think of the Birmingham rotation as a boy band, with every member having one readily apparent characteristic, then Bush is the one who doesn't allow hits, as the Southern League hit just . 180 off him. That, along with the respectable home run rate (just five allowed), will be tested at Triple-A.
