When running through summaries below, I briefly wondered what kept Colson Montgomery out of an action-packed Charlotte box score Friday night until remembering that he and Noah Schultz are representing the White Sox in the Futures Game at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, today. Once the clocks hits 3 p.m. CT, you can flip over from the White Sox-Pirates game to MLB Network for a better shot at entertainment.
When looking at the MiLB.com story about the game's structures, rules and coaching staff, it offered some unexpected closure when it was my way of realizing that Elvis Andrus never found a landing spot after the Diamondbacks cut him loose at the end of spring training:
The Futures Game perennially welcomes back former Major Leaguers from the host city to coach and converse with the next generation of young stars, and this year is no different. Serving as the skipper for the AL is 2024 Hall of Fame electee and four-time All-Star Adrian Beltré. He will be joined by Elvis Andrus, Francisco Cordero, Nelson Cruz, Prince Fielder, Derek Holland, Kenny Holmberg (the Rangers Field and Infield Coordinator), Raul Ibañez and Mitch Moreland to round out the staff.
Beyond Andrus, I'm not sure it's all that much of a reward for Schultz to go to the Futures Game if he has to spend time around Holland.
