White Sox Minor Keys: July 25, 2024

White Sox draft pick Hagen Smith

Two major prospect rankings have been updated and released to incorporate the recent influx of 2024 MLB draft picks, and while it's good news for the White Sox in terms of quantity, there's a little bit of a zero-sum nature to it.

Baseball America and Keith Law added Hagen Smith to their top prospects list, as he's No. 46 on the former, and No. 42 on the latter. The bad news is that Colson Montgomery has taken a hit in both. BA has him 30th after opening the season at No. 15, and he doesn't even rank in Law's top 60. Relatively speaking, it's not that drastic a drop since Law only had Montgomery 42nd to start the season, but his accompanying chat is fittingly bearish.

Brent: How far down has Colson Montgomery slid?
Keith Law: He hasn’t been the same player since the back injury, on offense or defense.

But if you're looking for any encouraging signs, Law ranks Noah Schultz 16th after opening the season at No. 79, while Edgar Quero moved up from 67th to 43rd. It's not all bad -- just on the position-player side, mostly.
