After dodging passing storms all week, the Charlotte Knights finally succumbed to a rainout in Nashville to close out the series.
Tim Elko likely wasn't in town, but he should be in a Charlotte uniform when their schedule resumes on Tuesday in Norfolk, as the White Sox promoted him to Triple-A.
Elko continues to be a pleasant surprise for a 10th-round, $10,000 senior signing. He's hitting .289/.338/.420 for Birmingham, with a significant reduction in his still sizable strikeout-to-walk disparity compared to his month-plus in Double-A the previous season. The home run total -- nine over 371 plate appearances -- is the only area where he's taken a step back, and that's a pretty crucial one for a first baseman, but we'll see whether Charlotte afford some cheap homers that Regions Field hasn't.
If he bends the smaller dimensions to his liking, perhaps he can tell his new teammates how it's done, as the Knights are 16th in the 20-team International League in homers.
