On the heels of updates for its leaguewide and team-by-team prospect lists, MLB Pipeline also reranked the 30 farm systems, and it leaves the White Sox plenty of room for improvement.
Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo and Sam Dykstra placed the White Sox 11th, the most bearish of the revised rankings to date. FanGraphs had the White Sox third, while Baseball America and ESPN had them eighth.
It represents a sizeable jump from their 20th-place ranking before the season, but 1) that was before the Dylan Cease trade, and 2) this one's after the White Sox held the fifth-overall pick and were supposed to corner a seller's market at the deadline. It also comes on the same day the four full-season affiliates were held to nine runs total in regulation, although they still managed to go 2-2 because they spun a couple of shutouts. See the note under the Birmingham box score for why adding position players is paramount.

Notes:
*Birmingham scored its lone run on a solo shot by Canaan Smith-Njigba, who was playing his first game since June. The Pirates released him in early July after he hit .212/.344/.330 for Triple-A Indianapolis. I suppose it's only fair since he scored the only run in his only game against the Sox, tripling and scoring in a 1-0 victory for Pittsburgh on April 9, 2023. You may better remember that game for being the one where Oneil Cruz wrecked his ankle sliding into Seby Zavala. Anyway.
