White Sox Minor Keys: July 31, 2024

White Sox prospect Jacob Gonzalez

Jacob Gonzalez (Jim Margalus / Sox Machine)

While the White Sox suffered in July, so did their first-round pick from last year.

Jacob Gonzalez closed out his month by going 0-for-4, giving him 11 hitless games over the 22 he played over the course of July. Compounding problems, he only reached base in one of those games. He hit just .151/.184/.194 during the month, which is even more gruesome when considering that he opened it with a four-game hitting streak. Over the 19 games that followed, he's down to .105/.121/.145. He's drawn just one walk.

If it feels like the White Sox are bereft of bankable position player prospects besides Edgar Quero, Gonzalez's sudden, swift downturn is one reason why. Colson Montgomery's malaise is another, and that post is coming later today.
