Randy Williams was a lot of things to a lot of people: a husband, a father, a redneck, left-handed, a flash-in-the-plan.
But to Sox fans, he was mostly just the last two.
And so RAAAAAAAAAAAAANDY finds himself heading to Charlotte after losing a duel with Erick Threets during Wednesday's loss.Threets had a nice White Sox debut, pitching a scoreless inning and making a terrific defensive play, but it should be said that he was as successful in retiring lefties as Williams was.Both allowed singles to the only one they faced.
At least Threets should be more useful against righties, and will hopefully avoid Williams' knack for failing even in garbage time.

Now that he's pitched with the White Sox for almost a full calendar year, I think we can say that we've been treated to the full Tony Pena Expererience.
Last year, we learned what it was like when he was awful. Over the first couple of months, we learned why Kenny Williams traded for him.
And with his recent stretch of awful pitching, we now have seen for ourselves that he's as streaky as a barfly's briefs. A quick rundown of his season:
- One run over his first 8 2/3 innings (four appearances).
- 11 runs over his next five innings (five appearances).
- One run over his next 13 innings (10 appearances).
- 10 runs over his next 10 2/3 innings (eight appearances).
If his season were a roller coaster, his last two weeks would've been the two whole minutes underwater.
The funny thing is that Ozzie Guillen may have tried waiting it out, as Pena pitched only once over an 11-day period. That didn't help, so maybe the only thing he can do is work through it. It'd just be nice if these Sox could create more low-leverage situations for the Threetses and Penas of the world, so we can get a true idea of their worth.
