Good morning!
Liam Hendriks wrapped up another fine season, recording 37 saves alongside a 2.81 ERA (2.68 FIP). Hendriks fell just one save short of his 38 that he recorded last year, and now sits 8th all-time on the White Sox closer saves list with 75. Those 75 saves also happen to be the most saves recorded in a White Sox closer's first two seasons in franchise history.
Today, though, combined saves are not what this Sporcle will be all about. Instead, I'm asking you to identify every pitcher in White Sox history who has recorded at least 20 saves in a single season. That leaves us with 39 entries: how many can you name? Good luck!
Quiz Parameters
- I've allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
- For hints, I've provided the number of saves and the season in which those saves occurred.
Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:
- Hendriks is actually just one of two pitchers to record 75 saves or more across 2021-2022. The other: Kenley Jansen, with 79 for Los Angeles and Atlanta.
- If you lower that combined threshold to 60, you can add Josh Hader (70), Emmanuel Clase (66), and Edwin Diaz (64).
- Let's have the Sox try and not face Emmanuel Clase as much as possible next season. His combined ERA across both years is over a full run lower than second-lowest: 1.33 to 2.38 (Edwin Diaz). Yikes.
