Sporcle Saturday: Lots o’ dingers

(Photo by David Banks/USA TODAY Sports)

Good morning!

I was thinking about the possibility of José Abreu not returning to the White Sox, and realized something while looking at his page on Baseball Reference: a potential exit will leave the White Sox with no player on the roster with more than 177 home runs (Yasmani Grandal). Abreu's 243 career dingers leaves him with a realistic shot at 300 before all is said and done, but it's kinda sad that it may not come with Chicago.

Throughout the years, there have been players on the White Sox roster who have hit 300 or more home runs in their career, though not usually all during their tenure with Chicago. In fact, there have been 26 such players to hit 300 or more home runs in their career while also hitting one or more with the Sox. And that's what today's Sporcle is all about: how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I've allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I've provided their White Sox tenure and career home run totals.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • In baseball history, 153 players have hit 300 or more home runs.
  • With Albert Pujols' retirement, Miguel Cabrera will be the active home run leader with 507.
  • Nolan Arenado (299) and Freddie Freeman (292) are likely the next 300 home run members.
