Noah Schultz
Noah Schultz made his highly anticipated affiliate debut with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers and did not disappoint. Despite allowing a leadoff worm-burner double, Schultz displayed electric stuff that Fayetteville batters couldn't catch up with.
Colson Montgomery & Norge Vera
With the ACL White Sox beginning play on Monday June 5, it appears that both Colson Montgomery and Norge Vera have been added to the roster on rehab assignments. Hopefully they'll get into game action soon with a return to a full season affiliate in the near future.
Bryan Ramos
Bryan Ramos returned to Birmingham last week and while he tries to find the power stroke, Ramos having a nice batting average and getting on base nearly 41% of the time are promising signs after a long layoff.
Lenyn Sosa & José Rodriguez
Lenyn Sosa played in three games last week before (as our Jeff Cohen noted) being placed on the IL retroactively to June 2 with an injury.
José Rodriguez was starting to heat up at the plate, but was placed on the temporarily inactive list by the Barons on May 30.
Oscar Colás & Sean Burke
Oscar Colás seems to be working his way out of the rut. While the power aspect of his game has been absent in recent weeks, Colás improved upon his week to week OBP once again while also making more successful contact at the plate.
It was a tale of two starts for righty Sean Burke. The first start of the week was good, as Burke pitched five innings allowing two hits, one run (earned), still walked four, but struck out eight batters.
His second start against the Sounds however was less good, as he still pitched five innings, but allowed six hits, six runs (six earned), only walked two and struck out five.
Cristian Mena
Cristian Mena's start against Mississipi began well, facing the minimum but allowed just one hit in the first two innings. After that, wildness and ineffectiveness plagued the 20 year old, as he allowed all three of his hits and six of seven walks from the third inning on.
Peyton Pallette
Peyton Pallette ran into some trouble in the third inning that chased him from the start early. He allowed two walks, a single, and a hit by pitch before getting pulled (he did record a flyout and strikeout in the frame as well).
Best of the Rest
Nate Mondou & Adam Haseley
Nate Mondou was on fire for the Knights, batting .375/.565/.813 for a 1.378 OPS against Nashville while knocking three of his six hits for extra bases (double, two home runs) across five games.
Adam Haseley also had a fantastic week, batting .478/.586/.739 for a 1.325 OPS with four extra base hits (three doubles, one home run) while playing in all six games.
Alex Colomé
Old friend Alex Colomé was great for the Knights, making three appearances against the Sounds and securing two wins (if you're into that sort of thing). He allowed two hits and struck out five across three and a third total innings.
Tyler Neslony
Baron legend Tyler Neslony was back to his old ways, slashing .409/.480/.636 for a 1.116 OPS across five games against his former club. Three of Neslony's nine hits went for extra bases (two doubles, one home run) while he also was 3-for-3 in stolen bases against the Braves.
Michael Turner
Michael Turner sure has a knack for getting on base. The 24 year old catcher got on at a .643 clip last week en route to a 1.370 OPS (six hits, two doubles). Turner also didn't strikeout this week and now has a 15.1 BB% on the season.
Jeremiah Burke
Jeremiah Burke was outstanding in his lone relief appearance, throwing three innings of hitless baseball. Burke allowed just one walk while striking out six Grasshoppers.
JareD Kelley
Last week, Jared Kelley was been utilized out of the bullpen in a multi-inning role with promising early results. Kelley's first appearance saw him throw three innings allowing no hits, one run (earned), and one walk while striking out six.
The second appearance for the 21 year old saw him throw two and two thirds innings of hitless baseball. Although he did walk three (all in one inning), Kelley once again struck out six Grasshoppers.
Andrew Dalquist
After a tough ending to the month of May, June couldn't have started much better for 22 year old Andrew Dalquist. Dalquist threw 61% of his pitches for strikes while logging a season high in strikeouts.
Tim Elko & Mario Camilletti
Tim Elko got the power game back on track in the series finale against Fayetteville by knocking two home runs and concluding the series with a 1.162 OPS in four games.
Mario Camilletti continues to display a ridiculous walk rate (26.4%) for the Cannon Ballers, as he added five more walks to his total en route to a .647 OBP for the series and a 1.147 OPS in four games.
Tyler Schweitzer & Shane Murphy
Tyler Schweitzer had a strong start after two tough previous outings. The 22 year old was in control until some wildness took over right at the very end of his otherwise fantastic start.
Shane Murphy appears to be ready for the next challenge, as the 22 year old southpaw once again threw five innings, allowed only two hits, one run (earned), while issuing no free passes and striking out six Woodpecker hitters. Murphy has a sterling 1.89 ERA and 0.92 WHIP for the season across 38 innings for the Ballers (eight starts).
