Sporcle Saturday: Royal Sox

Good morning!

The White Sox-Royals crossover player has been a source of frustration for many a White Sox fan in both recent years and stretching back well over a decade. Whether the player did well for the Royals and didn't pan out with the Sox, or they acquired a guy who didn't make much sense to add to the roster, it usually ends with the same question: why are the White Sox so smitten with former Royals?

I don't have an answer to that question --I suspect there are actually multiple reasons-- but it does make for an unusual, but interesting, Sporcle: who has suited up for both teams throughout franchise history? That's today's quiz, should you feel up to the challenge. I'm not, however, going to make you name all the fringey instances. To qualify:

  1. Batters must have appeared in at least 80 games for each team;
  2. Pitchers must have logged either 20 starts or 40 relief appearances for each team. (In some instances, I think this might be a combination of both)

That makes the Sporcle 31 players. How many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I've allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I've provided the tenure of the player when with the White Sox and their position.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • The most successful player was the 1972-1979 second baseman, who logged 11.7 bWAR.
  • The least successful player is, well, the White Sox' current left fielder, who has managed to accrue(?) -1.7 bWAR.
  • The most even player by bWAR is the 2002-2004 catcher who logged 2.2 for the White Sox and 2.1 for the Royals.
