Sporcle Saturday: A mixed history

(Photo by Warren Wimmer / Icon Sportswire)

Good morning!

With Marco Paddy gone from the organization, it should be interesting to see how (or if) the White Sox move on from their signing of players from Cuba. As Jim noted in the piece linked above, for every signing which worked out, there was a Norge Vera, Yolbert Sánchez, or Yoelqui Céspedes who did not.

Still, the White Sox have a pretty rich history of Cuban-born players donning a White Sox uniform, which is what today's Sporcle will test you on. In all, 26 separate Cuban-born players have played with the White Sox: how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I’ve provided the year(s) they were with the Sox and the position they played.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • The only position underrepresented on this list is second base.
  • The Cuban player with the most appearances in MLB history is Rafael Palmeiro with 2,831 games. The currently-active MLB player with the next-most games fits somewhere on this list: he has logged 1,298 games.
