PREAMBLE

My first ever OPP with the help of my daughter.   As we are distant from MLB daily knowledge, we know very little of trades / free agents.  With that said, we would like to do our best with the given talent and maybe a free agent or two.   We are banking on a hitting miracle worker.

MANAGER

Someone who thoroughly understands analytics and new technology but also understands game management to adjust sometimes despite analytics (see Sizemore, Grady walking Soto).

While I'm here - we sign Ecker as a hitting guru Seitzer as hitting coach.   And I'm banking on that making a difference.

ARBITRATION-ELIGIBLE PLAYERS

Write “tender,” “non-tender” or “rework/extend” after each player and their projected 2025 salaries. Feel free to offer explanation afterward if necessary.

    • Andrew Vaughn: $6.4M - sign for $5 million an let our new hitting gurus go to work on him
    • Nicky Lopez: $5.1M - let go to make room for the young guys.
    • Garrett Crochet: $2.9M - extend $30 million a year for 5 years.
    • Gavin Sheets: $2.6M - non tender
    • Enyel De Los Santos: $1.7M - non tender
    • Jimmy Lambert: $1.2M - non-tender (minor league deal)
    • Justin Anderson: $1.1M - non tender.  maybe minor league deal to let him compete in spring training.
    • Steven Wilson: $1M - tender
    • Matt Foster: $900K - tender

CLUB OPTIONS

Write “pick up” or “decline” or “rework” after the option.

    • Yoán Moncada: $25M ($5M buyout) - buyout
    • Max Stassi: $7M ($500K buyout) - buyout

OTHER IMPENDING FREE AGENTS

Try to retain, extend qualifying offer, or let go?

    • Michael Soroka (Made $3M in 2023) - resign for relief role.  Let's give him 3m this year, 5 mil club option next year with $500k buyout.
    • Mike Clevinger ($3M). pffftttt
    • Chris Flexen ($1.75). I like the cut of his jib in 5th starter insurance / long relief.  happy to sign him for 2m

FREE AGENTS

List three free-agent targets you’d pursue during the offseason, with a reasonable contract. A good example of a bad idea:

No. 1: Eloy Jiminez on a $1m prove it deal. - let's let our new hitting gurus unlock his massive potential

TRADES

Propose trades that you think sound reasonable for both sides, and the rationale behind them. A good example of a bad idea:

No trades

Summary

We debated between fantasy (trading for Ohtani) and reality (letting the kids play). Finally settling on letting the kids play and see what the new coaching staff can do and what their philosophy is.  From there the new staff will set a plan based on who they like and who they don't. And we re-work / sign free agents in 2026.  Besides, this plan will give us a high draft pick in 2026, which leads to our ultimate plan:   build a strong team and strong farm system to compete in 2027 and TRADE FOR OHTANI IN 2028
