Trey McGough

Trey McGough is Trey McGone.

FutureSox first relayed and James confirmed the news Thursday night that McGough retired, which brings an abrupt ending to nine months that covered the spectrum of success.

McGough came over from the Orioles in the Eloy Jiménez trade, and finished a strong season by posting a combined 1.98 ERA over 81 ⅔ innings split between Norfolk and Charlotte. He didn't get a September call-up, nor was he claimed in the Rule 5 draft. The White Sox gave him a non-roster invitation, but he was among the first cut, had a disastrous April (15 IP, 18 H, 15 R, 15 ER, 3 HR, 15 BB, 13 K), and now he's out of baseball.

If nothing else, it reminded me to check on how Jiménez is faring with Triple-A Durham: .238/.313/.366 with two homers over 28 games.
